About Gizella Futak

In 2020 after I was furloughed from my job in the City of London during Covid, I took up glass engraving and etching and therefore have only been engraving for around two years, so have still much to learn! Prior to this I had been painting on glass as a hobby for some years as well as making jewellery out of glass. Engraving and etching was a transition from this. Whilst I have had no formal artistic training aside from a GCE in Art (many years ago!) I come from a family of artists. My father was a woodcarver until he retired and my grand-father was a goldsmith and silversmith. Since September 2020 I have become a full time artist and now concentrate on creating and selling my glass wares via my website. The environment is important to me therefore a lot of my glass work is on up-cycled and recycled glass most of which you would find in your kitchen cupboard! Much of my artwork is based on British wild flowers and insects with an emphasis on declining species like wild bees. As well as working on soda lime glass I do work with crystal too.
