About Akemi Adams

Akemi began engraving in 2003 in her native Japan. As an active member of a small group of enthusiasts she persevered to develop her own delicate hand engraving style of line and stipple using both western and Japanese motifs. One of her characteristic pieces `Shikikuruma` (Four season flower carriage) was exhibited in Tokyo. Akemi’s first solo exhibition was in the UK at the Gallery Cattura in Devon. It was soon after this that she was awarded the 2007 Pearsons Glass Prize for the “Best Use of Glass in Engraving”. After two years in the UK Akemi returned to her country house in Japan where she manages to combine running the household, engraving and rising early to hunt for treasures in antique street markets. Akemi continues to expand her portfolio using a variety of crystal as well as antique and utility glass pieces. She has exhibited in Japan and earned an awarded at the 2009 Hokota Art Exhibition. She works for private clients.
