South West Branch News September 2015

On Sunday 27th September members of the branch met at West Buckland Village Hall near Wellington in Somerset and everyone who attended took part in a practical day learning to use acid paste. This technique is a useful addition to what a glass engraver can do because it is handy for adding texture or for using with stencils and stickers to do quick designs which can be elaborated later with a drill. While care needs to be taken, this is safe if used responsibly at home but should not be confused with the commercial acid techniques which are very dangerous.

The next branch work day will on Sunday 31st January 2016 (also at West Buckland) and Amanda Lawrence will be talking to us about her recent work.

The branch is also looking forward to the planned exhibition in Durlston Country Park on the glorious Jurassic coast next Easter. The gallery has a fabulous sea view and will be an amazing venue to show off glass engraving.

If you are in the Bedford area Sue Burne’s latest commission (a 3 panel internal vestry window) has just been installed in the Church of St. Thomas in Clapham, Bedfordshire (not the Clapham in London).

The Branch is growing and has recently gained several new members. The next Branch workday will be on the 31st January. All are welcome to attend and if you would like more information please contact me on
